Bridget Langley is a Latin literary historian, with training in philology and ancient material culture. Her work asks how Romans perceived the environment around them, and how seemingly timeless literary images like a locus amoenus or a fountain of inspiration in fact changed their meanings as the natural and built environments were altered. Her current book project is entitled Ovid on Water: Roman Hydraulics and the Roman Poetic Imagination. Dr. Langley holds a BA from Worcester College, Oxford (home to the university’s finest gardens) and a PhD from the University of Washington, Seattle. She has excavated at Pompeii and Pollena Trocchia, Campania.
