Description

Professor Paul Kosmin (Harvard University) will give the 2020 Annual Getzel Cohen Memorial Lecture titled "The Hellenistic Settlements in the Red Sea Basin: Re-entering the Indian Ocean."  The lecture will take place in Law 118, with a reception to follow in Dyer 160.

Getzel Cohen devoted a section of his 2006 The Hellenistic Settlements in Syria, the Red Sea Basin, and North Africa to the Ptolemaic settlements of the Red Sea and Indian Ocean. This paper will contextualize these settlements within a cultural history of trade, exploration, and merchant heroes.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
