Just in case you've never seen an olive. The painting (Napoli, NM inv. no. 8634) shows a dish of olives in the upper left hand corner, plus a plate of fish and two dead turtledoves. "In spite of the great importance of the olive, it is seldom pictured" (Jashemski and Meyer 2002: 134). The mosaic is from Saint-Romain-en-Gal, in the Musée des Antiquités nationales, Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
