Georges Seurat. La Lucerne, Saint-Denis. c. 1885-86. Oil on canvas. National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh.
The America name "alfalfa" is taken from Spanish and in turn from Arabic, as the al- indicates; from al-faṣfaṣah 'the fodder of fodders'; Lucerne is of unknown etymology (nothing to do with the lake or town).
